Independence Supports.

Caring support to help you stay active, connected, and in control of your life at home.

Staying independent is about more than managing daily tasks, it’s about feeling confident, connected, and supported in the life you choose.

Independence Supports give you a little extra help with the things that matter most, whether that’s getting ready for the day, joining community activities, or moving safely around your home.

These supports are available through both the Commonwealth Home Support Programme (CHSP) and the Support at Home program. Each program offers different levels of assistance, but both share the same goal: helping you remain safe, independent, and connected to your community.

What Independence Supports Includes.

Independence Supports help you maintain your daily routines, wellbeing, and safety at home. They include personal care, transport, community connection, cultural support, therapeutic services, and respite everything designed to help you stay active, supported, and comfortable in your own home.

Most people receiving Independence Supports contribute a moderate amount toward the cost of services, based on their income and circumstances.

Independence Supports Under CHSP.

Entry-level, immediate or occasional support.

CHSP is designed for older people who are mostly independent but need occasional or lower‑level help to continue living well at home. Supports may include:

Supports may include:

  • Entry‑level services such as cleaning, personal care, transport, and social support
  • Quick access to essential assistance to support day-to-day living
  • A focus on maintaining independence and confidence at home

These services are flexible and can be either short-term or ongoing, helping you stay safe and connected without needing higher-level care.

Independence Supports Under Support at Home.

Ongoing, higher-level and coordinated care.

Support at Home provides more structured, budget‑based supports for people who need regular or higher‑level assistance. These services help you maintain autonomy and continue living safely at home.

Supports may include:

  • Personal care (showering, dressing, medication prompts)
  • Social support and community engagement
  • Transport to appointments and activities
  • Respite care for carers
  • Cultural support
  • Assistive technology and home modifications

Your Care Partner works with you to plan your services, coordinate your supports, and ensure everything aligns with your goals and preferences.
