Support at Home Vs CHSP.
How allied health services differ between program types.
The way allied health services are delivered depends on the program you are approved for. The key differences relate to how care is structured, funded and adjusted over time.
Commonwealth Home Support Programme (CHSP).
For entry‑level or occasional needs.
CHSP is designed for people who are mostly independent but benefit from entry level or short‑term.
Grant‑funded services: You access individual allied health sessions as required, either on a short term or ongoing basis.
Episodic therapy: You can be assessed for restorative care services, which can be available on a short-term basis to help you regain function after a setback.
Lower‑intensity support: CHSP is assessment based and designed for entry level ongoing support. As needs increase further assessment will be required.
This model suits people who need therapy support to stay safe and well at home.
Support at Home.
For ongoing or more complex needs.
Support at Home is designed for people who require coordinated, more complex support.
Integrated care approach: Allied health services are part of a broader, personalised care plan.
Flexible funding: You receive a dedicated quarterly care budget that can be used to access the allied health support that you need.
Coordinated therapy: Your Care Partner can work with you to increase or reduce therapy hours within your allocated quarterly budget, ensuring your supports remain aligned with your goals and health needs.
This model is ideal for people who need regular therapy, multiple allied health disciplines, or ongoing monitoring.

These services can also be arranged on a self‑funded basis if preferred.
Do I need a referral from my GP?
No. Your aged care assessor will determine which services you are eligible for. Some therapies may also be available through other health programs, depending on your circumstances.
Can I receive ongoing therapy?
