As we age, everyday tasks can become more challenging, but that does not mean you need to leave the comfort of your home.
The Commonwealth Home Support Programme (CHSP) supports older people who need a lower level of assistance to continue living safely and independently at home.
What is CHSP?
CHSP is an entry‑level aged care program that provides practical support while maintaining your independence and choice. Many people access CHSP services on an ongoing basis, sometimes for many years, as long as their support needs remain within the CHSP level.
How Are CHSP Services Delivered?
Services can be delivered intermittently or regularly, depending on your individual needs and circumstances. While most CHSP support is ongoing, some specific programs, such as restorative care or reablement, are time‑limited and approved for a defined period.
Is CHSP Right For Me?
CHSP is well suited to older people who need one or two supports, or whose care needs do not require a higher‑level funded package. At Cura Aged Care, we are here to make accessing CHSP simple, respectful, and stress‑free.
How CHSP Works.
CHSP provides low‑level support to help you manage daily tasks and maintain your wellbeing. It’s flexible, easy to access, and designed to give you just the right amount of help — no more, no less. It is not intended for those with more complex needs, who may be better served by other aged care programs such as Support at Home.
You may be eligible if you are:
- 65 years or older, or
- an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person and aged at least 45, or
- homeless, or at risk of homelessness, and aged at least 50.
If you are approved by My Aged Care, you’ll receive a letter outlining the CHSP services you can access. From there, you can choose a provider, like us, that feels right for you — and we’d be honoured to support you.
What Services Can I Access Through CHSP?
CHSP offers a wide range of practical supports to help you stay safe, comfortable, and connected at home. Depending on your assessment, you may be able to access:
Home Support.
Help with everyday tasks such as cleaning, meal preparation, or personal care.
Home Modifications.
Small changes to your home — like rails or ramps — to support mobility and independence.
Advisory Services.
Specialist support services for specific care if you live at home with a clinical condition or have specialised needs.
CHSP is a great starting point if you need basic support. If your needs increase over time, you can explore the Support at Home program or choose to pay privately for additional services.

Transport Services
Help getting to appointments, shopping, or social activities.
Nursing Care
Clinical support from qualified nurses for health monitoring, wound care and other essential nursing tasks.
Personal Care
Assistance with daily living activities such as dressing, grooming, and bathing.
Respite Care
Planned respite services that give carers time to rest and recharge.
Home Maintenance
Support with minor repairs and general upkeep around the home.
Allied Health Services
Access to professionals such as physiotherapists, occupational therapists, dieticians, or speech pathologists.
Social Support
Programs that promote social connection and community engagement, including group activities and companionship.
Domestic Assistance
Help with everyday household tasks like cleaning, laundry, meal prep, and general tidying to keep your home safe and manageable.
How to Access CHSP.
To receive CHSP services, you’ll need to be registered with My Aged Care. An assessment will be carried out to determine your eligibility and the types of support that will benefit you most.

Who Provides CHSP Services?
CHSP services are delivered by approved aged care providers across Australia — including Cura Aged Care.
We can support you with a wide range of CHSP‑approved services at a government‑subsidised rate. If you need more than one service, you may choose different providers for each, but many people prefer to keep their care in one place. Our team offers a broad range of supports, making it easy to receive consistent, coordinated care through Cura.

What is the difference between CHSP and Support at Home?
CHSP provides entry‑level support for people who need only a small amount of help. Support at Home offers higher‑level, ongoing care for people with more complex needs. Many people start with CHSP and transition to Support at Home as their needs change.
How much will CHSP cost me?
CHSP is subsidised by the Australian Government. You may be asked to contribute a small amount toward the cost of your services. Any fees will be explained before services begin and outlined in your Service Agreement.
If you are unable to contribute toward the cost of your care, you will not be disadvantaged. A financial hardship application can be lodged and will be considered in line with our CHSP Participant Contribution Policy.
Can I receive CHSP while waiting for Support at Home funding?
Yes. CHSP is often used as a short‑term solution while waiting for longer‑term funding. It allows you to receive support quickly, so you don’t go without help. Accessing interim supports through CHSP with Cura will allow you to transition smoothly onto the SAH program, ensuring that your services continue to be provided by established Home Care Worker staff that are familiar with your needs and preferences.
Can I choose my own provider?
Absolutely. Once you’re approved, you can select any CHSP provider that has capacity to provide your service type and meets your needs. You can also change providers at any time if your preferences or circumstances change.
What if my needs increase over time?
If you begin needing more than one or two services, or your care becomes more complex, you may benefit from having a reassessment and if eligible transitioning to the Support at Home program. Privately funded service provision is also an option you may choose to access. Our team can help you explore your options.
