How To Get Started.
Care that adapts as your aged care needs change.
Getting started with Cura Aged Care is simple.
Whether you’ve already been assigned government funding or you’re looking for immediate self‑funded support, our Care Partner team is ready to guide you every step of the way.
If you have received any of the following, we can begin onboarding you straight away:
A Commonwealth Home Support Programme (CHSP) referral code for a service type we are funded to deliver
A Support at Home program package assignment letter
A Short‑Term Care funding approval
Or, if you need immediate private (self‑funded) support, we can help you begin services without delay. Our team will work with you to create a personalised plan that reflects your goals, preferences, and daily needs.
Getting Started With Cura.
Step One – Give Us a Call.
Once you’ve been assessed and allocated your funding — or you’re ready to begin privately funded care — contact our Care Partner team on 1800 941 212.
For Support at Home and Short-Term Care funding, you have 56 days from the date on your assignment letter to enter into a service agreement and begin services.
For CHSP, once you receive your referral code, you can then choose a provider with capacity to deliver the service type you’ve been approved for.
If you need more time, My Aged Care may grant a 28-day extension, so there’s no need to worry if there has been a delay.
Step Two – Tell Us About Your Needs.
This is where we get to know you.
We’ll talk about your daily routines, health needs, cultural or language preferences, and what matters most to you. If you have specific requirements, such as dementia support, mobility needs, or interpreter services – this is the perfect time to share them.
You can also nominate a trusted person to act as your supporter and help manage your care. If you’d like them to be recognised on an ongoing basis when discussing your services, you can register your supporter with My Aged Care so they’re authorised to speak with providers and the contact centre on your behalf.
Together, we’ll begin planning your services so everything is ready to start as soon as your funding becomes active — or, if your funding is already active, we can commence services right away.
You’re welcome to explore Our Services at any time.
Step Three – Finalise Service Agreement.
Once you’ve chosen Cura as your provider and we understand your needs, we’ll prepare your service agreement.
This outlines:
- the services you’ll receive
- any financial contribution you may be required to make
- how they will be delivered
- how your funding will be used
- the Code of Conduct for Aged Care and Statement of rights
- the complaints process should you have any concerns
For Support at Home and Short‑Term Care, this step also includes creating your personalised Cura Care Plan.
Step Four – Begin Your Services.
With your funding, service agreement, and Care Plan plan in place, our home support team will start delivering services according to your approved schedule.
Step Five – Review & Adjust As Needed.
Your needs may change over time, and your care should change with you.
Your Care Partner will review your Care Plan regularly, and you can request changes at any time. If something isn’t working or your situation shifts, we encourage you to reach out. We’re here to ensure your supports always match the life you want to live.
Tip For Success: Involve Someone You Trust.
Starting aged care can feel overwhelming. If you’d like extra support, consider involving a family member or trusted person in your conversations with us.
They can help you ask questions, understand your options, and feel confident in your decisions.
FAQ's.
What is a referral code and why do I need it?
A referral code is your unique identifier for accessing aged care services.
You give this code to your chosen provider so they can view your My Aged Care record, accept the referral, and begin organising your services.
If you misplace your code, you can find it in your My Aged Care Online Account.
If you decide to change providers, you’ll need to reactivate your referral code through My Aged Care or by calling 1800 200 422.
I have cultural needs, can Cura support this?
Absolutely. Cura is committed to providing care that respects your cultural background, language, traditions, and personal preferences. If you have specific cultural or spiritual needs, or require an interpreter, simply let our Care Partner team know. We’ll work with you to ensure your supports feel comfortable, familiar, and culturally appropriate.
I’m currently with another provider; can I switch to Cura?
Yes, you can change providers at any time. If you decide to move your services to Cura, we’ll guide you through the process and help make the transition as smooth as possible. You’ll need to reactivate your referral code through My Aged Care, and once that’s done, our team can take over your support and begin planning your services.
