Being approved for aged care support is a big milestone, but we know the waiting period that follows can feel uncertain.

Many older Australians wait 3-6 months for assessment for service approval and often an additional 6–12 months for allocation of their aged care funding, depending on level and priority.

What Happens After Your Assessment.

Once My Aged Care has completed your assessment, you’ll be placed on the National Waitlist until a package becomes available. During this time, you can still explore options to help you remain independent and well at home.

It is important to know that you may not receive your full package allocation initially and instead commence on 60% funding. This is common and may continue for a period of several months until your full package funding is available and allocated to you.

Access Entry-Level Government Support.

If you’ve been approved for a Support at Home package but are still waiting for full funding, you may receive interim funding at 60% of your assessed package level or be supported through the Commonwealth Home Support Programme (CHSP).

These options can provide essential help such as cleaning, personal care, meals, and other basic supports while you wait for your full package to begin.

Begin Private (Self‑Funded) Services.
