We had a wonderful and fun exercise session with a group of five and our amazing instructor, Annette today. Our exercise classes are held every Tuesday and Wednesday, featuring different types of exercises based on our fitness instructor’s weekly plan. This time, the group focused on strength, mobility, and a bit of Tai Chi at the end of the session. Our care worker, Hidemi, supports Annette during the class. If you know her, yes, she’s the lady who teaches Tai Chi. Starting the fresh morning with some exercise – how energetic! This is the secret to why our seniors are always happy! At Cura Aged Care, we understand the importance of physical activity for seniors. Our Wellness Centre offers a variety of exercise classes designed to meet the needs of our residents. These classes are not only beneficial for physical health but also provide a great opportunity for social interaction and mental stimulation.

Our Exercise Classes at Cura Aged Care

Our exercise classes at the Wellness Centre are tailored to the needs of seniors. These classes are designed by qualified exercise professionals who have experience working with older adults. They take into consideration each participant’s fitness level, mobility, and any specific health concerns to create a safe and effective exercise program. The classes are held in a fun and social format, making them enjoyable for everyone involved. Whether it’s strength training, mobility exercises, or Tai Chi, our sessions are designed to keep our seniors active and engaged. The social aspect of these classes is also important, as it helps combat feelings of loneliness and isolation, which are common among older adults. Engaging in regular physical activity has numerous benefits for seniors. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), exercise can help improve sleep quality, reduce anxiety, lower blood pressure, and enhance brain health by reducing the risks of developing dementia and depression. Additionally, exercise can lower the risk of heart disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes, and certain cancers. For seniors, maintaining physical health is crucial for independent living. Regular exercise helps improve balance, strength, and flexibility, which can reduce the risk of falls and other injuries. It also helps manage chronic conditions such as arthritis, diabetes, and heart disease. Strength training, in particular, can counteract bone density loss, which is common as we age.

A Typical Exercise Session

A typical exercise session at our Wellness Centre starts with a warm-up to get the muscles ready for activity. This is followed by a series of exercises that focus on different aspects of fitness, such as strength, mobility, and balance. Our instructor, Annette, ensures that each exercise is performed correctly and safely, providing modifications as needed to accommodate different fitness levels. During the session, our care worker, Hidemi, assists Annette and provides additional support to the participants. Hidemi is well-known for her Tai Chi classes, and she often incorporates elements of Tai Chi into the exercise sessions. Tai Chi is a gentle form of exercise that improves balance, flexibility, and mental focus, making it ideal for seniors. In addition to the physical benefits, our exercise classes provide a great opportunity for social interaction. Seniors can connect with their peers, share experiences, and build friendships. This sense of community is essential for mental and emotional well-being. Social interaction helps reduce feelings of loneliness and isolation, which can have a significant impact on overall health. Participating in group activities also gives seniors a sense of purpose and accomplishment. It provides them with a routine and something to look forward to each week. This can boost self-confidence and improve overall quality of life.
