How Level 1 Fees & Funding Works
Understanding the fees and funding for Level 1 Home Care Packages is essential to ensure you or a loved one can receive the necessary support to live independently at home.
Government Contribution
The government subsidy for Level 1 Home Care Packages is a financial contribution provided by the Australian Government through My Aged Care.
This subsidy helps cover the cost of the care services required by individuals who need minimal assistance to continue living independently at home. The current subsidy is:
- Daily Government Contribution: $29.01
- Fortnightly Government Contribution: $406.14
- Yearly Government Contribution: $10559.64
Once you or a loved one is assessed and approved for a Home Care Package, the government allocates a specific subsidy amount to their care.
This funding is paid directly to the chosen service provider, such as CÜRA, who then coordinates and delivers the required services.
The subsidy helps reduce the financial burden on you or a loved one as well as your family, ensuring that essential care is affordable and accessible.
Basic Daily Fee
The basic daily fee is a standard contribution that all individuals receiving a Home Care Package may be asked to pay.
For a Level 1 package, this fee is $11.43 per day as per the latest guidelines (March 20, 2024) and it changes in March and September each year in line with the age pension
The basic daily fee is designed to contribute to the overall cost of care and services provided under the Home Care Package.
It supplements the government subsidy to ensure adequate funding for the recipient’s care needs.
Income-Tested Care Fee
The income-tested care fee is an additional contribution some people may need to pay based on their income.
This fee is determined through an income assessment conducted by Services Australia.
It is designed to ensure that individuals who have a higher income contribute more towards their care.
The amount varies and is capped annually and over a lifetime to ensure affordability.
For Level 1 packages, this fee is relatively modest compared to higher levels of care.
If you’d like to estimate how much you or a loved one might need to contribute, use this home care package calculator to learn more.
By understanding these fees and funding mechanisms, you can make informed decisions about the care and support needed to maintain independence at home.
