Last week, our back office staff at Cura Aged Care participated in essential fire safety training. This training is crucial for compliance with Australian safety regulations, including the Work Health and Safety Act 2011 and the Building Code of Australia.

Organisational fire training in Queensland now includes significant changes to fire protection licensing, a renewed focus by the Queensland Fire Department (QFD) on addressing cultural issues, and the importance of workplace fire safety training for compliance and emergency preparedness. These changes aim to ensure licensees have the necessary skills to carry out critical fire protection work and reduce administrative burden.

The updates include:

  • Reducing the number of fire protection licence types and classes
  • Updating qualifications for obtaining a licence
  • Simplifying the scopes of work for each licence type

Additionally, there’s a renewed push for an independent inquiry into cultural issues within the QFD, including reports of a culture of fear and silence that discourages complaints. We are committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of our staff and residents through comprehensive training and adherence to regulation.
