A Day of Connection and Community

Last Thursday, Cura Aged Care had the pleasure of participating in the Gold Coast Seniors Expo held at the Runaway Bay Community Centre. Our dedicated team, including the wonderful Rebecca Rodgers, CHSP Coordinator, and Jennifer Barber, Care Advisor, were on hand to engage with the community and provide valuable information about our services.

The Expo, held on the 8th of May 2025, was a vibrant event featuring over 80 exhibitors offering free information and education for seniors. Attendees enjoyed free entry, a delicious sausage sizzle, and complimentary hearing and eyesight tests. The City of Gold Coast Council and many other organisations were also present, making it a comprehensive resource for seniors looking to enhance their health and lifestyle.

Participating in these Expos is always an honour for us at Cura Aged Care. It provides a fantastic opportunity to connect with the community, share our expertise, and learn more about the needs and concerns of the seniors we serve. During the Expo, we had meaningful conversations with many visitors, helping them understand the Commonwealth Home Support Programme (CHSP) and Home Care Packages (HCP), as well as the range of services we offer.

Understanding CHSP and HCP

The Commonwealth Home Support Programme (CHSP) is designed to help older Australians live independently in their own homes and communities. It provides entry-level support services such as domestic assistance, personal care, social support, and respite care. CHSP is ideal for those who need a little extra help to maintain their independence and continue living comfortably at home.

On the other hand, Home Care Packages (HCP) offer a more comprehensive level of support for seniors with more complex care needs. These packages are tailored to meet individual preferences and can include services such as personal care, domestic assistance, social visits, transport, and mobility aids. HCPs are designed to provide flexibility and choice, allowing individuals to make decisions about the services they receive.

To access a Home Care Package, the process involves:

  1. Registering with My Aged Care.
  2. Getting referred for an assessment to determine eligibility.
  3. Being assigned a Home Care Package if eligible.
  4. Choosing a provider, like Cura Aged Care, to begin receiving services.

It’s important to note that once you accept a Home Care Package, CHSP services will conclude, and your new services will be covered by the Home Care Package without the need to pay an additional subsidy.

As a multicultural-based community, Cura Aged Care is committed to matching clients with care workers who share their language and cultural background. This approach helps our clients feel more comfortable and at home, ensuring they receive the best possible care tailored to their unique needs.

The Gold Coast Seniors Expo was not just about providing information; it was about building relationships and fostering a sense of community. We were thrilled to see so many seniors engaging with the exhibitors, participating in the activities, and enjoying the day.

We are excited to announce that our next appearance will be at the Gold Coast Seniors Expo in Southport on the 24th of July at the Southport Community Centre. We look forward to another day of connection, learning, and community spirit.

Thank you to everyone who visited our stall and to all the organisers for making the event such a success. We can’t wait to see you all again in Southport!
