Home Care FAQs

A Home Care Package (HCP) is a government-funded program designed to help seniors live independently in their own homes for as long as possible. At Cura, we tailor these packages to meet individual needs, offering services ranging from basic assistance with daily activities to more complex care needs. These packages are flexible and can include personal care, nursing, allied health support, and more, ensuring your loved one’s wellbeing and dignity are maintained.

Eligibility for a Home Care Package (HCP) is determined through an assessment conducted by the Aged Care Assessment Team (ACAT). This assessment considers your overall physical, medical, and social needs. Anyone who is a senior requiring assistance to stay at home may apply, but priority is given to those with the greatest needs. If you’re considering a Home Care Package for yourself or a loved one, reach out today to learn how we can help you with the application and assessment process.

The Commonwealth Home Support Programme (CHSP) is a government initiative aimed at helping seniors who need minimal to moderate support to keep living independently. CHSP provides a basic level of care to assist with daily tasks such as cleaning, meal preparation, and transport. This program is ideal for those who require some help to maintain their independence but do not yet need a comprehensive care package.

Eligibility for the CHSP is typically for those aged 65 and older (or 50 and older for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people) who need assistance with daily living but are mostly independent. A simple assessment by the Regional Assessment Service (RAS) is required to determine your eligibility. At Cura, we can help you navigate this process and access the support you need. If you want to learn more about whether you or a loved one is eligible for this program, contact us today to speak with a member of our staff

The main difference between the Commonwealth Home Support Programme (CHSP) and Home Care Packages (HCP) lies in the level of care and support provided. CHSP is designed for those who need light assistance to remain living at home, offering specific, entry-level services. In contrast, Home Care Packages offer four levels of tailored support, from basic care needs to high-level care needs, suitable for those requiring more comprehensive, ongoing assistance. Both programs are designed to help seniors maintain independence; however, the HCP provides a higher level of personalised care and support.

We highly recommend Cura Aged Care as a Home Care Provider. We had a very unfortunate time with our first provider and after careful consideration we joined Cura and have had a wonderful relationship with them for the past 2 years. The greatest bliss for us has been the fact that we have one continuous carer, Robin, who is trustworthy and so caring of Dot.
